Reading PA Airport 1968. The “Reading Road Races” was another great event. Like Bridgehampton and Marlboro it could be dangerous. Note the haybales protecting the guy
wire and phone pole on the edge of the course. I had initially entered the event because it was advertised as being held at the Reading Airport and I thought I would able to experience what it was like in the early days of American racing when events were often held on airport runways.   Instead the course turned out to be a true “ ‘round the houses” type circuit as it was held on the access roads around the civil defense barracks crossing a runway only once. A very nice bonus at this  event was an “all you can eat and drink” smorgasbord on Sat night put on by the local VFD. An
extra few dollars at registration bought tickets for this. The food was great and it turned into a wonderful party.  In the photo are three of the four cars in the B/sedan class that year. The little  sports racing car behind me ran in the modified class. Behind it is a Lotus Cortina and BMW.   Not seen is Bob Speakman’s very fast Volvo PV-544 which won that year making it Volov's 1-2 as I finished 2nd to Bob.
