Turn one onto the infield road course at Daytona international Speedway.  This was the last event in which I raced my PV in anger.   It was essentially retired from active competition at the end of the 1969 racing season.

This pic was taken during practice for the ARRC or American Road Racing Championship.   What is now known as the "Runoffs" was called the ARRC in its early years.    This is the event that decides the National Champion for the various racing classes.   One final race, winner take all.

The entry invitations at that time were decided by points accumulated in National Races during the season.   I was first alternate, having finished 4th in the North East, but made the show

when Dave Ammen, top man in my class, decided to stay home.   My guess is he felt he wouldn't stand a chance against the Porsche's, which were still legal as sedans in 1969, with his Alfa GTA on Daytona's high banks.       Photo credit  -  Action Limited
